Art meets plus size fashion in new Isabel de Villiers collection

Fashion is art and art is in Fashion. Isabel de Villiers launches its Summer 14’15 range which is inspired by the Art movement. “We chose our favourite pieces from talented South African artists Marlene Dumas, William Kentridge, Irma Stern and Maggie Laubser and reworked the colour, texture, silhouettes, shadows and composition into every unique garment”, fashion designer Isabel said. The resulting summer range is creative yet fun and flirty with great staples to add to your wardrobe.

The printed chiffon maxi dress radiates long summer day fun, the maxi wrap dress calls for a classy evening out on the town while the jumpsuits demand playfulness. Our mesh cover-up top and chiffon kaftan invite you to the beach whereas the neck bow dress and chiffon shift dress will keep you professional and stylish at work. These all come in a handful of prints and fabric that are soft on the skin and beautiful to look at.

“As a ready-to-wear label that creates clothing from size 32 to 48, I admire simplicity and comfort. I therefore embraced easy silhouettes to allow freedom and inspire women to dress for their mood”, Isabel said.

The reason behind the broad size curve is due to the labels overall inspiration; the shape of the South African Women’s body. Isabel de Villiers thrives on the fact that we live in a rainbow nation blessed withmany different shapes and sizes. “There is a big gap in the market for curvier clothing and the label was therefore born out of the frustrations from our clients struggling to find locally designed plus size fashion.”

“I don’t want fashion to be restricted to a size 32,so my team and I challenge ourselves each season to design styles that will flatter all shapes and sizes. Dressing well has nothing to do with your size; it all comes down to your body shape.”

  1. Love love the work
Especially love the pieces with colour/print. I can see where art and fashion met. Kudos for incorporating the crop top style, I am sure many plus size ladies will love you xoxo
Concern- the model does not look particularly plus size. What is categorized as plus size?
