I always look forward to these shows because I know from experience that it’s often the new talent that bring the most exciting pieces to the table. They have to get their name established so they work hard for this, whereas, like in many other industries, some more experience designers expect to get by merely on their names. We like to celebrate the under dogs and support them with hope that they keep working the way they do to produce the creative pieces they create.
At the Lufthansa First Best collections were LarisaMODA, Erre, Claire Mckenzie, Sober, Yadah and Casey Jeanne. Besides showing at SA Fashion Week, the designers were competing among themselves for a prize sponsored by Lufthansa. Unlike the previous Renault new talent search at last years SA Fashion Week, which was chosen on design skill and talent of course, this year the prize winner was chosen via lucky draw. Claire Mckenzie won the award and will be attending the Berlin Fashion week because of it.
The best designers in this collection were definitely Erre, LarisaMODA, Sober and Yadah, and If I were to choose a winner it would be LarisaMODA because it featured the most innovative range in the bunch.
The Erre collection featured some great craftsmanship and their leather accessories are amazing. The all black palette also made it unique as most of the other designer opted for lighter more summer related colours. The label puts emphasis on power dressing, which it achieved with powerful yet feminine garments.
Sober stayed true to its identity with creating more beautiful dresses as usual. Tshepo, designer behind Sober, continues to make dresses that most women would love to wear.
The Yadah collection consisted of simple silhouettes and garments but the prints, once again, were the stars of the show. It’s every print lovers dream to own a collection like this one and many others that Yadah keeps producing more.
The future is surely bright for these designers and hopefully success will be inevitable.
