Shaldon Kopman, a renowned name in the fashion industry, puts his expertise into a new venture which revolves around accessible menswear. The NakedApe designer is collaborating with a commercial brand to create the label JD by Shaldon Kopman. The collection, aptly named “MANifestation” will be shown at SA Fashion Week…
1) Can you tell us more about what you’ll be showing at SA fashion week?
In short we will be showing a collaboration of a commercial brand named Jonathan D, targeting the other 99, 05% of market that naked ape does not access. The collection is titled “MANifestation” under label “JD by Shaldon Kopman”, a GA Creative brand and initiative.
2) This collection is described as “accessible designer menswear”, how important do you think this is in South Africa?
Let me reiterate, VERY accessible! The objective is to make the circle bigger, more affordable, more accessible local designer menswear. Shaldon Kopman (Naked Ape) and Jonathan D have walked different paths in the menswear world. We bringing these paths together by creating a line of fashionable menswear, not high fashion, focusing on shape, style, functionality, trim and overall identity. Having the opportunity to design/collaborate on the production of this collection and the opportunity to embrace identity and make fashion more affordable is most appreciated and most needed in our market.
3) What inspired this collection?
Joburg City! the style, the creativity, the eccentricity, and the distinctiveness of our people.
4) What is the best thing about SA fashion week for you?
We (SAFW) keep it Real! We Keep on Keeping On!
